Am I done with AI already?
I discovered ChatGPT about a year and a half ago. I thought it seemed cool, then Claude, then Perplexity. I could gather a lot of information faster than looking things up on Google. I was working on launching a new program. It seemed to have ideas. I was writing a lot of social media posts, and it improved them. It seemed good.
Ok now it’s a year and a half later, and everyone is using it for everything, including my 88-year-old mother. I recently became aware of things I don’t like. About 6 months ago. I was asked to be interviewed on a podcast, and they said they’d send me the questions in advance. Got the questions and didn’t understand them or have a clue how to answer them, and then I realized that it was done by AI.
A few months later, I was scrolling on Instagram and saw a Chinese Medicine Doctor talking about how to lose weight, and it seemed interesting. I clicked and was taken down the path of a sales pitch to buy vitamins. Of course, this started coming into my feed regularly, so I decided to look up this doctor, and it was AI-generated; no such person. Am I supposed to trust this?
Next was the Tai Chi Walking that came into my feed. “This is Lisa, 1 month ago. She lost 15 pounds from Tai Chi walking in one month,” with a before and after picture that was also not a real person. So what are we to make of all of this? People telling us that real people accomplished these things when they didn’t, just for the purpose of selling something?
I’m pretty much off Instagram now, and I just read that many of the articles on Substack are being written by AI and there’s a new tool to see how much of it was written by AI. So here’s the deal. I’m writing my articles 100% myself; I’m proofing them myself. You might see the odd typo, and that’s ok. I’m not asking AI to improve them because I’m smart and don’t want a machine to replace my brainpower. So I’m going to do things differently…Again. I hope you’ll join me.
P.S. I’ll still use it for certain things, but I take everything it says with a grain of salt, and I would recommend that you do too.
